Have you ever noticed how the birds you see around you change from season to season? Of the roughly 9000 species of birds that exist the world over, around 4000 are what are referred to as migratory birds. Migratory birds are birds that migrate on a global scale from season to season in search of food and places to breed. Some of these birds migrate all the way from the Arctic to the Antarctic! Migratory birds that travel across international borders are affected by such things as global warming and environmental destruction. In this edition of Earthrium, we turn the spotlight on the ecology of migratory birds. Macintosh users: please use Safari to view |
