In this edition of Earthrium, we've plotted on the globe all the solar eclipses due to occur to occur in the 21st century. A solar eclipse is a phenomenon that occurs when the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth are in virtually a straight line. We tend to think of solar eclipses as rare events, but in fact they can be observed somewhere on the face of the Earth at a frequency of around once a year. Here we look into what makes this astronomical phenomenon created by the three celestial bodies of the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth - a phenomenon unique in the universe - so appealing. |
