It's said there are between 6000 and 7000 languages in the world today. We live in a world in which diverse ethnic groups speak diverse languages. At the same time, due to the spread of the Internet and the advance of globalization, the number of people who communicate in English is growing. It could be said that we've reached an age in which people all over the world are able to communicate using a common language, but the flipside of this is that languages are disappearing at an alarming rate, with some observers predicting there'll be just 300 languages left in 100 years time. In this edition of Earthrium we take a closer look at the languages of the world.
