Nearly 20,000 people were killed, more than 100,000 injured, 35,000,000 left homeless, and extensive damages were incurred in Gujarat, India as a result of the major earthquake that hit on January 26, 2001. The emergency rescue has drawn to an end, and Indian government and relief organizations are now concentrating on reconstruction.
