The flood damage of the South Asia region has expanded by the heavy rains and cyclone in the monsoon season that continue since the end of June 2007. 25 million people or more are struck in India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Pakistan, and more than 3000 people are said to be perished. The United Nations warns that it is very difficult to deliver food and water to people in the isolated region, since the flood has blocked off the road, and there is a danger of the epidemic through water of poor hygiene to be spread in those regions. They are saying that the current situation is "the worst in living memory," and calling for worldwide support. (last updated August 21 2007) |
