Sometimes when I'm asked to draw up and spend hours on how to create the 'slick' and 'perfect' edge detail of a piece of joinery I always wonder why are they/ why am I spending so much time with unneccesary details when there are obviously more important things happening with the rest of the world that needs to be adressed. Why spend countless hours searching for the perfect designer lounge to suit the carpet colour of a new bachelor apartment when millions of refugees are desperate for temporary shelter to be thought of and constructed.
Mind you, I get excited to work on any type of projects , but I want to do my bit of social responsibility. I'm about to graduate this year from Interior design, but have started working full time since the beginning of the year, though I've been working part time since about 3 years ago. Any suggestions on how and where we as a designer could contribute our skills to the social side of things?
