Dear Think Earth Readers ; I am happy to be able to report to you on the Yukon Canada Native Indian visit to Tokyo . This was an historic time for these people as it represents the first visit by Yukon Natives to Asia as a group . My small part was to organize their tour. The group was comprised of 3 men and 1 woman. All were artists ,3 carvers and one painter. They braught over many art carvings, clothes made of animal skins that are still used today, dolls , and much more. We displayed these at the Cafe Pause in Ikibukuro , at the Canadian Embassy reception, The Pink Cow , Ushiku City Hall (our sister city) .They also met twice the Ainu leaders in Chiba and in Tokyo and exchanged ideas on how to communicate further .Indians and Ainu see many of the same interests .Keith Wolf Smarch ,a native , went recently to Hokkaido and will stay with Ainu there and will take part in the Peace cerimony there . We of course also participated in the Earthday events by holding storytelling ,which proved very popular with the children and adults. We also held talks about eco concerns and did some native design painting with children . As of June , I will return to Yukon but hope to be in touch with you all from there . We are going to make a Cultural camp for visitors to learn about Yukon native ways . I hope you can come and visit us ! Please feel free to contact me ,anytime at the email address given . Think and Act ! Dave Simpson

Progress report on Yukon Japan visit 2006
2006/12/08 02:31 08 (GMT) Dave Simpson@2-30-1 Seta,Setagaya ku Tokyo

Dear Readers : I would like to take this time to thank 'think the earth' for allowing us to showcase the Yukon Native efforts in Japan. At this time, December 8th, Yukon has plunged into some cold weather , now at minus 35 or so , very early for this time of year but it will help Yukoners that live off the land, to get about better ,than in the last five years when the weather has been to warm for water to freeze over thus not allowing dog sleds etc to to move about. This June , I and Ed Smarch , one of the Natives who came here , open to small, very modest Culture camps and welcomed our first Japanese visitor , a lady from Tokyo who will film Ed and his area . All are welcome, any time , please contact me for further details , we are also involved in Eco education ,native education and film making . Keith Smarch , a Yukon teacher of carving, maybe back into Japan in 07, to re meet with Ainu ,they have made good progress in relations between Yukon Klinket Natives and Ainu here . It is believed that these two people are related in blood and culture from long ago . This re-union will benifit all. I am re starting my Seminar efforts re health of the planet ( global warming ) health of company products re dangerious chemicals, and health of staff re over work ,diet ,yoga etc . I look forward to a great New Year for us all ! Kind Regards Dave Simpson Tokyo URL:http://www.ca.geocities.com/edcamp07

David-san, Thank you for the report. It was my pleasure to have met you at the Earthday. I am glad that the Yukon friends found the stay in Japan worthwhile. I lookforward to hearing about your future plans and if the cultural camp is fixed please let us know. We might be able to introduce the information on our weekly mail news sent out in Japanese. Think and Act, as you say!
