2003.4.3 - 4.10

Following the last year's success, we again exhibited "wn-1" in BASELWORLD, the World Watch and Jewellery Show, the world's largest trade fair for watch and jewellery.

With the introduction of its new corporate identity, BASELWORLD, the 31st annual World Watch and Jewelry Show took place in Basel, an international city on the North-Western corner of Switzerland, for eight days from April 3 to 10.

What motivated us to come back to Basel this year was an offer from our first "product partner" SII (Seiko InstrumentŐs Inc.) to set up Think the Earth Section inside their booth to present "wn-1".

Since the official worldwide debut last year at Basel Fair, "wn-1" has won the attention of media around the world, especially with its striking design and innovative movement structure that enables hour-hand ("Earth-dial") to move at the same speed and in the same direction as the real Earth.

Finding "wn-1" at SII' s booth, visitors constantly questioned me about the relationship between SII and Think the Earth Project. Now, I am happy to report that I had more chances than our debut year to explain to customers how a Non-Profit Organisation - Think the Earth Project works; developing products and services with messages for the future of the Earth and the society with like-minded companies/ Donating part of the proceeds from the sales to a fund for socially valuable activities.

What comes next?
"Next Generation Earth Watch" may debut from SII in near future!

Please keep your eyes on ever-evolving Think the Earth Products given birth by the collaboration between Think the Earth Project and partner companies.

Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) showcased brand watches- Nike, Issey Miyake, Alessi and Disney at the Basel 2003.
The first watches produced by Issey Miyake debuted last year from SII- "INSETTO", the line designed by an industrial designer, Shunji Yamanaka.

This year SII introduced a new line for Issey Miyake- "VAKIO".
Designed by the young up-and-coming Finnish industrial designer, Harri Koskinen, well-known as a creator of "Block Lamp" (MoMA permanent collection), "VAKIO" was getting the attention of buyers/ press representatives worldwide, especially from Europe.

Mr. Koskinen encountered "wn-1" at SII booth, and fascinated on the spot!
I believe he is now enjoying wearing his "wn-1"...
