2007.4.12-4.19
We exhibited Think the Earth branded watches at BASELWORLD 2007, the world leading show for watches and jewellery, for the sixth time.
|
The world largest watch and jewellery show, BASELWORLD 2007, took place in Basel, Switzerland. This year, the show started on 12 April, a little later than usual. The high temperature of the day often exceeded 25 degrees C (77 degrees F). The banks of the Rhein that runs through Basel were filled with people enjoying the sun.

|
2,100 exhibitors from 45 countries around the world gathered in the exhibition site over 160,000 m2 and showcased their latest products. Here at BASELWORLD, Think the Earth Project also unveiled the prototype of [wn-2], the third gEarth watchh in collaboration with SII (Seiko Instruments Inc.).

This year, panels were installed to assist visitors to learn the concept of Think the Earth Project and how to read time with our watches with ease.

Two types of [wn-2] are scheduled to be available. "Blue", expressing the beauty of our blue planet, is the standard model designed in line with [wn-1]. We are happy to announce the birth of "Silver", which we have received many requests for. Two bezels will be stored inside the new package, specially designed for [wn-2], together with the core module (northern hemisphere): one is the standard bezel with numbers marked counterclockwise and another, the optional bezel, indicates the hint to enjoy our watch.

*Prototype: design, specification and model names of the products are subject to change.
|
[wn-2] received a lot of favorable comments at the BASELWORLD! Mr. Chu and Mr. Huang of Sincere-Wan Enterprise Co., Ltd., Taiwan R.O.C., who have distributed [wn-1] for the past four years said "Silver version is very good. Women will like it!" Mr. Grupi of Sundial LLC, who has been our US distributor also for four years commented that "I think the optional bezel that expresses *Day and Night* is wonderful. I think everyone has waited for something like this."

Mr. Chu, General Manager and Mr. Huang, Marketing Executive of Sincere-Wan Enterprise Co., Ltd.
"We are always keeping our eyes on Think the Earth Project, not only on your watches!"

As mobile phones have become more common, less people wear wristwatches these days. Wristwatches are now often categorized as "articles of luxury" and their prices are on the upside, I heard at the Fair.
With the trend as it is, this year I felt that the general interest in "the manufacturing with stories to share" has grown stronger than ever.
The initial Think the Earth-branded product [wn-1] has been on sale for six years by now and still attracting a lot of attentions. As the concern about environmental and social issues grows, what Think the Earth Project is up to - "raising interest and concern toward the world by viewing the Earth from outer space and feeling closer to the Earth" - may have become easier to raise sympathy.

Ms. Wong, Managing Editor of Ming Pao Weekly, Hong Kong
"I've been looking for the products with not only marketing power but stories and here are the ones!"

During my stay in Switzerland this year, I visited "Museum furGestaltung Zurich (Museum of Design Zurich)", who had been organizing an exhibition called "On Time". The exhibition's topics are time measuring objects in a wider range, such as watches and clocks of course, but also calendars, timetables, pacemakers, metronomes and even the brain itself! [wn-1] will be featured and after the exhibition, will be integrated into the museum's permanent collection.
|
Mr. Pellin, Curatorial Assistant
"[wn-1] is a very interesting example of visibility of the time moving and a very philosophical attempt."
